Winter Energy Saving Tips

While we will all be spending more time at home this winter, you will want to make sure to avoid skyrocketing energy bills.

1. Upgrade your windows: Energy-efficient, dual-pane windows are designed to trap heat inside during the winter.

2. Get your existing windows winter-ready: If you can’t upgrade, try to add insulating window coverings.

3. Amp up your attic insulation: Adding insulation is one of the most effective ways to help retain heat and lower your energy bill.

4. Find and fix any leaks: Heat can easily escape through drafty windows and doors. Weatherstripping and caulking are common and easy ways to seal the areas.

5. Invest in a smart thermostat: Smart thermostats can learn your habits and temperature preferences to converse energy while you’re asleep or away from home.

6. Service your HVAC system regularly: Experts recommend an annual tune-ups to add years to the lifespan of your furnace.

7. Show your water heater some winter love: Make sure to flush sediment from the unit for an effecicency boost or if unit is 15-20 years old, the greatest savings would be replacing the unit.
