Sticking To Resolutions ( What You Want To Know Wednesdays )

We are quickly approaching the end of the year, which means New Year’s Eve is right around the corner! In true fashion, people around the world are preparing their New Year Resolutions in hopes of making 2018 a better year, as the saying goes, “new year, new you.” Unfortunately, many resolutions will be broken before January is even over. Greatlist.com brings us some excellent tips to maintain your goals for the new year.

  1. Write down and manage your goals - You want to make sure your resolutions are specific and measurable. For example, if you want to lose weight, don’t just say that you want to lose weight. Choose something like, “ I want to lose 10 pounds over the next six weeks by eliminating fast food meals, and going to the gym three to four times a week.”
  2. Make resolutions manageable –You want to set goals for yourself that are attainable. Don’t set yourself up for failure and discouragement by choosing goals that you can’t reach quite yet.
  3. Break up the goal – Break down your goal into smaller goals, or achievable steps.
  4. Treat yo’self – When you hit those hard-earned benchmarks, don’t be afraid to treat yourself. Choose a reward that won’t affect your hard work, such as; a weekend getaway, or a massage.
  5. Question your motives – The deeper your motivation to achieve your goals, the more likely you are to stick with your plan of action.
  6. Ask for help – Some people get discouraged or embarrassed to ask for help. There’s nothing wrong with seeking help in bettering yourself.
  7. Hold yourself accountable, but be forgiving – It’s natural and normal to have slip ups. Change doesn’t happen overnight – and that’s okay! One step off track doesn’t mean you have totally derailed your progress – just jump on back into your routine.
  8. Don’t give up! – There will be obstacles and slip-ups, but you can stick with your routine and achieve your “new year, new you!”
